Google Ads on a small budget: what to do and not do in the first 30 days
You can get results from Google Ads with a few thousand lira a month, but most accounts burn the first month in the wrong place. A simple 30-day plan.
The biggest mistake on a small budget is trying everything at once: five campaigns, a hundred keywords, every device, the whole country. The budget scatters and nothing can be measured. The plan below is built on doing one thing well.
Day 0: do not start without tracking
Form submission, phone click or purchase: decide what counts as a “result” and define it as a conversion. Without tracking you are buying clicks, not customers.
Days 1–7: one campaign, narrow target
Search network only; turn off the display network and search partners.
The area you actually serve — a city or district, not the whole country.
10–20 keywords in phrase or exact match; do not use broad match in the first month.
A negative keyword list from day one: “free”, “jobs”, “how to” and other off-intent searches.
Days 8–21: read the search terms
Check the search terms report twice a week. Add terms that eat budget without results as negatives; move the ones that convert into their own ad group. These two moves beat playing with bids on a small budget.
Days 22–30: the landing page
If there are clicks but no results, the problem is the page, not the ad. The promise in the ad should be visible on the first screen of the page; shorten the form; make the phone number tappable. If the page takes more than 3 seconds on a phone, fix speed first.
Do not
Apply automatic “recommendations” without thinking: most are aimed at increasing spend.
Switch to smart bidding in the first month: it cannot learn without enough conversion data.
Bid high on your own brand name if competitors are not bidding on it.
On day thirty you should have one number: what one result costs you. The decision to scale or stop can only be made with that number.
